Facial Fat Transfer vs. Dermal Fillers
October 20, 2024
Injectable dermal fillers are one of the world’s most popular cosmetic treatments, used to restore or add volume to areas like the cheeks and smooth wrinkles. However, they have some downsides, including the need to inject synthetic materials and the need for regular treatments, Facial fat transfer offers several benefits over these temporary options.

What is Facial Fat Transfer?
Loss of fat from your facial features happens naturally over time, leading to hollowness in the cheeks and under the eyes. This volume loss can also lead to loose skin that forms wrinkles. Facial fat transfer uses fat taken from elsewhere on your body using liposuction, purifies it, and strategically places it into your problem areas. It can restore fullness and contours to almost any area of your face.
Facial Fat Transfer vs. Dermal Fillers
While facial fat transfer and dermal fillers address similar issues, they work very differently. At the Lanfranchi Center, we offer facial fat transfer so you can enjoy the lasting benefits.
No Artificial Materials
Because it uses your own fat and nothing else, facial fat transfer eliminates the risk of your body reacting to a synthetic substance. While the ingredients in dermal fillers are generally safe, the body can always respond negatively to anything foreign.
Maintenance-Free
After transfer, your fat cells will take some time to establish themselves in their new location. Once they have settled in, they will require no maintenance and maintain their natural look without the need for regular touch-ups.
Lasts Longer
Once fat cells are established, they will remain in place for a lifetime. Most people only need one session. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, typically require injections once or twice a year, with the longest-lasting ones lasting up to two years.
Facial Fat Transfer Consultations Available
Lower Cost Over Time
Dermal fillers are cheaper than facial fat transfer when you consider the cost per treatment. However, if you continue to get dermal fillers, you will pay that cost over and over for years. Facial fat transfer is typically a one-time expense.
Works With Other Procedures
Facial fat transfer is often used in combination with the TLC Lift™ to restore lost volume in the cheeks and other areas. It provides natural-looking rejuvenation that enhances the results of a facelift, eyelid lift, or many other procedures.
What is Recovery Like After Facial Fat Transfer?
Facial fat transfer at the Lanfranchi Center takes place using local anesthesia, and it requires only one small incision to collect the necessary fat. No incisions are used to place the fat. As a result, recovery time is minimized.
Most people can return to light activities within a few days but must take care not to disturb the fat as it settles. You can usually resume all activities within seven to ten days.
