Neck Lift Recovery Time: How Soon Can You Return to Normal Activities?
March 10, 2025
A neck lift can significantly improve the appearance of your neck and jawline, rejuvenating the area for a more youthful look. However, understanding the recovery timeline is important to ensure that you return to your normal activities at the right pace. Fortunately, most people recover quickly and can start enjoying their results almost immediately.
What is a Neck Lift?
A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that targets excess skin, fat, and muscle in the neck and jawline. The procedure aims to tighten the skin, remove sagging, and improve the contour of the neck and chin. A neck lift can correct signs of aging, such as loose skin, fat deposits, and muscle bands that form over time. At the Lanfranchi Center, it is often performed as part of the TLC Lift™ face and neck lift.

How is a Neck Lift Performed?
During a neck lift, Dr. Lanfranchi will make discreet incisions, usually hidden beneath the chin or around the ears. Through these incisions, excess fat may be removed, and underlying muscles can be tightened. The skin is then redraped for a smoother, firmer appearance. This procedure is highly customizable, with the surgical plan tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
If you have concerns about a double chin or excess fat in the neck area, a neck lift can be combined with neck liposculpture (precision liposuction).
Neck Lift Recovery Time: How Soon Can You Return to Normal Activities?
Recovery from a neck lift varies by individual, but most patients can return to work within one to two weeks. Initial swelling and bruising will likely be present for several days, and some minor discomfort may happen.
For those with desk jobs or light office work, you may feel ready to return after about one week, but more strenuous tasks or physically demanding jobs may require you to wait a little longer. It is important to follow your surgeon’s guidelines, including limiting physical exertion during the first few weeks to avoid complications.
After approximately four weeks, most patients can gradually return to all their normal activities, including exercise. It is recommended to ease back into physical activities, such as walking or gentle stretching, before resuming more intense workouts like running, weightlifting, or vigorous aerobic exercises.

What Results Will I See After a Neck Lift?
Patients typically notice immediate improvements in the contour of the neck, including reduced sagging, a more defined jawline, and smoother skin. Swelling and bruising will gradually subside, and full results will become visible in several months. With proper aftercare, results from a neck lift can last for many years, offering a more youthful and refreshed appearance.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Neck Lift?
Good candidates for a neck lift are individuals who are generally in good health, have realistic expectations, and are bothered by the appearance of their neck or jawline. Ideal candidates may have excess skin, fat, or muscle bands in the neck that make them feel self-conscious. A consultation with Dr. Lanfranchi will help determine if a neck lift is the best solution for your needs and goals.
While the recovery from a neck lift requires some time and care, most patients can return to their regular activities very quickly. Following your surgeon’s post-operative instructions ensures optimal healing and long-lasting results, helping you enjoy the benefits of a rejuvenated neck for years to come.
