What is “Ozempic Face” and How Can Facelift Surgery Help?
September 1, 2024
If you are one of many people seeing life-changing results with new weight loss medications like Ozempic and Mounjaro, you may already be enjoying a healthier, more active body. However, many people losing weight with these medications are also noticing facial changes, such as skin laxity, that affect their confidence. Dr. Lanfranchi offers facelift surgery to correct the effects of rapid weight loss and restore your smoother, more sculpted features.
What is Ozempic?
Ozempic belongs to a group of drugs known as GLP-1 agonists. GLP-1 is a peptide or small signaling molecule used to communicate information about fullness and metabolism to your brain, and an agonist is a compound that acts like GLP-1 and binds to the same receptor. Ozempic reduces the desire to eat and helps people comfortably control their food intake. As a result, many people lose significant amounts of weight with these medications.

What is “Ozempic Face” and How Can Facelift Surgery Help?
Fat in an area can stretch the skin over time, and how much that skin rebounds with fat loss depends on several factors, including your age and how much fat you have lost. The appearance known as “Ozempic Face” is the result of losing the underlying facial fat, allowing the skin and often the muscles, to sag.
Some people, especially those with youthful, elastic skin and minimal sagging, can see their desired level of tightening with non-surgical procedures. However, most people will benefit from a Lower Facelift and Necklift such as Dr. Lanfranchi’s TLC Lift™. This one procedure can correct the primary concerns of “Ozempic Face,” including:
- Sagging skin
- Hollow-looking areas
- Loose neck skin or “turkey neck”
- Drooping jowls
- Wrinkles and creases
- Loss of definition around the lower face
How is Facelift Surgery Performed?
Several factors make the TLC Lift™ facelift ideal for “Ozempic Face.” Dr. Lanfranchi performs his signature procedure using small incisions and advanced techniques to lift and tighten the skin and deeper muscles. Since many people choose to combine other procedures with their Lower Facelift and Necklift, the TLC Premier Lift™ combines your lower face and neck lift with two to four other procedures, such as chin augmentation or a blepharoplasty.

What is Recovery Like After Facelift Surgery?
We will provide you with detailed instructions to help you prepare for your facelift surgery and what you can expect afterward. Since the TLC Lift™ only uses local anesthesia, you are awake and alert immediately after your procedure. While you will experience some swelling and soreness in the area, most people can return to work in seven to fourteen days. Adding additional procedures does not increase your recovery time.
Am I a Candidate for a Facelift for “Ozempic Face”?
We welcome you to meet with Dr. Lanfranchi and learn more about the TLC Lift™ facelift surgery. People with moderate to severe signs of skin laxity and wrinkles due to volume loss often see tremendous improvements. While most healthy adults are good candidates, you must have realistic expectations and be prepared to take the proper amount of time to heal.
